De Kooning

To say that I am a fan of abstract art is an understatement. I´m not an expert on the subject by any means but I can really appreciate it from a purely esthetic point of view. I used to work on an amazing project which was an education in art on a daily basis, where priceless art lined the walls in every room. It was such a treat and an incredible experience to view these pieces in a private setting.

If I had a few million bucks I would spend it on one of his pieces…

Chic chinoiserie!

Traders started bringing Chinese exports to Europe as early as the 1100′s leaving behind a growing interest with the European public. As trade with the Orient grew more and more popular in the 1600′s so did the fascination with Chinese art, which later became commonly known as Chinoiserie.

Chinoiserie refers to the 17th and 18th Century style in European art which shows characteristics derived from the Chinese. Mostly used with Baroque and Rococo styles, it features lacquered surfaces painted with scenic motifs and sometimes beautified with gilded details.

Chinoiserie wallpapers are some of my favorites and can envelope a whole room with growing vines, exotic birds and exquisitely painted details. We once did an amazing oval dining room for a project in Bel Air, CA where the paper was hand painted on site with soft colors on an antique silver background.

Here are some of my favorite interiors picked out from Elle Decor, Lonny and fellow blogs.

What I want on my wall …

This amazing photograph by Massimo Vitali, (1944 Italian) of the Butterfly Valley/Turkey, is an edition of 6 and is selling for a humble 25,000 Euro. A great size at 5 x 6 ft. this would be a stunner in your dining room or above your sofa. Now this is what I would love on my wall… imagine gazing at this and almost feeling the refreshing blue water and sunshine on your face. Just close your eyes and you can almost be in the picture…

Top 10 tips on how to hang art

This past weekend I made another guest appearance on Swedish television network TV4 where I shared some easy tips on how to hang art.

Here is my top 10 tips for hanging art:

  1. Hang art that is in harmony with the rest of your furniture. You want to use the art to enhance your room and what it hangs above.
  2. Hang art in pairs or groupings. Art usually has more impact when it´s hung in a pair or a group unless the piece is so large that it can carry the whole wall.

Richard Serra paintings

No shocker that I´d be a fan of Richard Serra (since I love everything that´s black and white). I love his simple yet so super chic paintings… if only I had the budget for one.

Maybe it could be a fun do at home project to try…
